Second Language Oratorical

Congratulations to the following students who participated in the District 8 French Second Language Oratorical Competition held at Millidgeville North School on March 26, 2008 last evening.

Grade 6 Early Immersion, 1st: Kathleen Gagnon
Grade 7 Early Immersion, 1st Devan Mahaney

Kathleen and Devan will go on to the Provincial Competition to be held on May 3 at the University of Moncton. Best of luck to the both of you!

PM announces funding for free MedicAlert bracelets for children

Prime Minister Stephen Harper today announced that the Government of Canada will provide the Canadian MedicAlert Foundation's No Child Without campaign with support to ensure elementary school children across the country are protected from unforeseen medical emergencies. District 8 Intensive Core French Information Sesson

Below are dates and locations for the parent information sessions on the Intensive French. All sessions will run from 7:00 – 8:30 p.m., on the dates indicated below.

These sessions are for parents and all sessions will have the same information. If you are unable to attend the one in your area, you are welcome to attend another.

Monday, March 31st River Valley Middle School Theatre.
For all elementary schools located ‘on the river’,including Morna Heights and Browns Flat

Kids Helping Kids

In the coming month, the Kindergarten to Grade 5 students at Forest Hills School will be initiating a special project titled “Kids Helping Kids” to promote global awareness and citizenship. We will be collecting items that will be sent to the children of Afghanistan through the Canadian Military.

If you wish to contribute to our efforts, we will be collecting the following items between March 12 and March 31

  • Notebooks
  • Pencils (no pens)
  • Erasers
  • Rulers
  • Chalk
  • Crayons
  • Pencil crayons
  • Colouring books
  • Picture books
  • Small toys
  • Sandals/shoes
  • Children’s underwear
  • Toothbrushes & toothpaste
  • Socks
  • Mittens/hats/scarves
  • Soap
  • Towels



As we will be shipping the items to the military in, we are also collecting monetary donations that would be used towards the cost of shipping.

Super Spellers

The Super Spellers national challenge will air on CBC-TV this fall. Now is the time for students to get involved. They are searching for top students - not just great spellers, but those who can think on their feet.

To qualify, beginning on March 16th, 2008, kids 12 or younger can log on to www.superspellers.ca for a chance to spell their way to a spot on the TV show. Visit the Super Spellers website for more information!
