Invitation to meet Alexandra Cousteau

On Saturday, October 23rd, the N.B Museum in partnership with ACAP Saint John will host a public engagement featuring Alexandra Cousteau &her Expedition Blue Planet. This free, one time public event will take place from 4:30pm - 5:30pm. Come out and meet the internationally renowned environmental advocate and her team, while on their Saint John stop of the Expedition Blue Planet2010 tour. Saint John is one of only 6 communitiesin Canada selected by Alexandra for this tour, andwill be their last stop inCanada. The Expedition Blue Planet team will be available to field questions and discuss issues with the general public. This is a great interactive learning experience, and opportunity to get informed on water issues facing us today and in the future.

The expedition Blue Planet team has partnered with National Geographic to travel across North America on a five-month interactive exploration of critical water issues. This initiative was started in 2008 by Alexandra Cousteau to engage individuals around the world through telling the story of our water planet. The expeditions show the interconnectivity of water and what we must do to protect our most valuable resource. On Saturday, October 23rd, Alexandra Cousteau and her team will be in Saint John to highlight and support the Marsh Creek Restoration Initiative, and document its contribution to our global water system.

Change Your Life...and Someone Elses

If you knew donating just 1.5 hours of the 168 you have available per week

could change 10 kids lives forever, would you do it?

Heres your opportunity. When you volunteer as a kids.now coach-mentor, you become a positive

influence during a critical developmental period in a kids life. Its a time when kids make choices that can change the course of their lives forever. A major US study found that young people with mentors are:

46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs and 27% less likely to begin using alcohol

52% less likely to skip school and more confident in their performance in school work

able to get along better with their families

Now heres the best part: As a coach-mentor you’ll improve your life too! Research confirms that people gain a multitude of skills from volunteering, including enhanced interpersonal skills and improved ability to understand people, motivate others, and deal with difficult situations. In fact, kids.now coaches often confirm they apply the skills they developed through the program to their daily lives.

Do you have what it takes? Are you:

Fun and enthusiastic?

Able to relate to kids?

Open to other cultures and diversity?

At least 21 years old?

Committed to making a positive difference in kids lives?

Interested in developing new skills that could improve your

own life?

If you answered “yes” to the above, then kids.now is the right choice for you.

Whats involved?

One six-hour training session with other coach-mentors

Weekly 1.5 hour sessions for 12 weeks (fall or spring programs)

Half-hour prep time each week for 12 weeks

Convinced? Great! Heres how you sign-up:

Complete and submit the online application at

Pass a personal reference check and a police check

Attend a personal interview with a kids.now program manager
