Annual Christmas Flea Market

We are currently collecting items for our Flea Market in December. The proceeds from this event go to support families in our school community during the holiday season.

Mrs. Roy would like to remind parents and guardians that the Parent/Teacher meetings this week are an ideal time to bring items into the school for this event. Middle school students will be available to collect items during the Parent/Teacher times.

We thank you for your support.

Perception Surveys

Perception surveys gather information from staff, parents, and students on their perceptions of positive learning environment and academic climate.
All students grades 4-8 will be doing this the first week of December. Parents are randomly selected (by the Dept. of Ed.) to fill these out as well. The information gathered from these surveys greatly assist us in improvement planning.

Christmas Flea Market

The Forest Hills annual "Christmas Flea Market" will take place on Thursday, Dec.4th in the school's mini-gym.
We are in need of items for our sale and would appreciate any of the following: toys, games, movies, videos, books, jewellery, crafts, decorations, ect... The purpose of the event is to raise money to help needy families in our school with a grocery certificate for their Christmas shopping. We have received great support in the past and once again we are asking for your participation. November 18th and November 20th (Parent Teacher night/day) would be a perfect time to bring things in as our Middle School Spirit Club will be on hand to collect whatever you bring.
Thank You for your support!!! (Direct inquires to Mrs. Roy )

Parent Notice

We would like to advise all parents that we have had a few cases of head lice reported in the building.

We advise parents to check their child's hair every 2 or 3 days for the next few weeks. One nit can hatch and begin laying eggs in a very short period of time.

We suggest that the best way to deal with head lice is to use a treatment (either purchased at a drug store or one of the home remedies available to you). This treatment should kill any live lice....but will not have much of an effect on the nits which have not yet hatched. Therefore, it is extremely important that all nits be removed from the hair...if you miss even one the problem will return in as little as two weeks.

If you have any questions please contact Ms. McGrath at the school office.

Back Parking Lot Drop Off

RE: back parking lot drop off of students
Notice To Forest Hills Parents & Community

Because safety is our topmost priority at Forest Hills School, we are asking our parents and community to assist in implementing traffic changes.

1. Vehicles must only park in designated parking areas.

2. Vehicles must drop off children at the corner of the traffic lane and then
continue moving.

3. It is not necessary, and we discourage, parents accompanying children in to the school. This practice contributes to a lot of traffic congestion.

4. Children who are within walking distance of the school are encouraged to walk – promoting fitness and helping reduce carbon emissions.

5. Beginning Monday, November 10, 2008, we will be monitoring this and identifying vehicles that are causing problems.

6. Vehicles picking up children at the end of the school day must be parked in
designated parking spots.

7. AT NO TIME should there be vehicles parked or idling (for longer than a quick drop off) in the fire lane adjacent to the entire back of the school.

Thank you from the school’s administration and PSSC for considering children’s safety as our #1 focus.

Ski Club

Once again this year we will be organizing a Ski club for middle level students at Forest Hills School. This program runs for six weeks each year and is sponsored by the Poley Mountain After School Ski Program.

The program begins on January 15, 2009 and is open to all middle level students. The cost for the six week program is $150.00. This fee includes return transportation from FHS to Poley Mountain, equipment rental and ski lessons. All fees are due before December 17, 2008.

Parent Volunteers ski for free. Teacher supervisors travel with the students to and from the ski hill.

The cost is based on a minimum of 30 students participating and may increase if we have fewer than 30 students interested.

If your child is interested, listen to morning announcements for a student meeting which will be held in mid November.

If you have any further questions about our Ski Club, please do not hesitate to contact the school administration or Mr. A. Fequet who is the program supervisor.
