Parent Notice
We advise parents to check their child's hair every 2 or 3 days for the next few weeks. One nit can hatch and begin laying eggs in a very short period of time.
We suggest that the best way to deal with head lice is to use a treatment (either purchased at a drug store or one of the home remedies available to you). This treatment should kill any live lice....but will not have much of an effect on the nits which have not yet hatched. Therefore, it is extremely important that all nits be removed from the hair...if you miss even one the problem will return in as little as two weeks.
If you have any questions please contact Ms. McGrath at the school office.

Back Parking Lot Drop Off
Notice To Forest Hills Parents & Community
Because safety is our topmost priority at Forest Hills School, we are asking our parents and community to assist in implementing traffic changes.
1. Vehicles must only park in designated parking areas.
2. Vehicles must drop off children at the corner of the traffic lane and then
continue moving.
3. It is not necessary, and we discourage, parents accompanying children in to the school. This practice contributes to a lot of traffic congestion.
4. Children who are within walking distance of the school are encouraged to walk – promoting fitness and helping reduce carbon emissions.
5. Beginning Monday, November 10, 2008, we will be monitoring this and identifying vehicles that are causing problems.
6. Vehicles picking up children at the end of the school day must be parked in
designated parking spots.
7. AT NO TIME should there be vehicles parked or idling (for longer than a quick drop off) in the fire lane adjacent to the entire back of the school.
Thank you from the school’s administration and PSSC for considering children’s safety as our #1 focus.

Family Literacy Night
We are hosting a Family Literacy Night here at Forest Hills on Wednesday, October 22nd from 6:30-7:30.
This night will be an opportunity to share the importance of Literacy learning with your child. We hope this experience provides you with useful ideas, homework tips, fun and practical games that reinforce concepts and most of all, a great way to be together while learning together.
The format is simple...families can rotate from one activity station to the next, at their own pace. Staff will be available to help with activities and to answer any questions you may have.
The purpose is simple...to provide families with some innovative ways to "celebrate and have fun while learning"". All of the literacy activities presented can be easily duplicated at home for the specific learning needs of your child. Remember that regular review and practice of all skills is crucial to learning.
We look forward to seeing you on the 23rd!

Open Forum on Electronic Media at Forest Hills
Dear parents,
AtMONDAY, APRIL 21 6:30 pm Middle School Library
The focus of this meeting will be to address the issues of Electronic media, privacy, violence as entertainment, and publication of school/student photos.
This meeting is intended for parents who have questions and concerns around these issues. It will be an open forum where we will work together as partners to become better informed, and therefore better equipped to address some of the emerging issues that are resulting from the very easy access to electronic publication devices (cameras, phones, computers, internet sites).
All schools in district 8 are governed by a provincial policy 311 regarding the Acceptable Use of Computers, as well as a district policy on Cell Phone and Other Electronic Devices.
It is a universal concern, and is presenting itself as a particular concern to
Our parents are our partners, and we need to begin a discussion about how to address this growing phenomenon. The particular issue is currently pertaining to our middle school students, but we welcome all grade level parents as we take this issue seriously and know that electronic media will be a permanent part of our culture, and long-term solutions will be needed.
We hope to have you attend. Susan Holmes, guidance learning specialist, will be in attendance as well. Our focus will be mainly to bring this issue to light, and to hear the voice of parents. We want our students to learn in a safe environment, secure from privacy invasion and the broadcasting of peer violence. The school plans to do sessions with our student body as well.If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the school.

Bake Sale for Dance Groups
Dear Parents and Students,
On Thursday, April 17th, of this week the Elementary and Middle School Dance Groups will be hosting a bake sale for the entire school. All monies raised will be used to outfit our dancers for our end of the year performances. In order to make this sale a success we are asking for any donation of baked goods. It would be helpful if the goods are individually wrapped ready for sale. If you would like to support our sale please send in baking on Wednesday or Thursday morning of this week. The sale will be held on Thursday from 9:00am to 11:00am. (Due to the fact that some of our children have peanut allergies we prefer that none of the baked goods contain nuts.) Thank you for your support!!
Sincerely,
Ms. Cyr
