Attention Volunteers! Big Brothers Big Sisters, NB Association of Community Living and FHS Partnerships

Forest Hills School is partnering with NB Association for Community Living to look for “Circle of Friends” facilitators. Training and information is provided and commitment is for in-school activities only.

The purpose of Circle of Friends is to break down barriers of social isolation and assist students with an intellectual disability in building relationships and friendships with their peers. Circle of Friends is a club unlike no other in schools today. It is open to all students regardless of their interests or skills and is an opportunity for kids to come together to simply share their interests and learn the importance of building and maintaining friendships. Allowing all children to have an opportunity to be themselves with other children is integral to their social development and overall well being. Circle of Friends is simple and straightforward program that is held at school during lunch time. The program has been an overwhelming success because it fulfills our most basic needs to be understood and to have someone to call our friend.

For more information about Circle of Friends or to learn how you can become a Circle’s Facilitator at your school, please contact NBACL’s Marc Gathercole by phone at (506) 453-2191 or via email
mgathercole@nbacl.nb.ca. or contact Ms. T. Whitney, school principal, at 658-5338 for more information.

PLEASE consider this opportunity as a way to support our community children.
